Hope Mikaelson and Alaric Saltzman arrive in a church in Atlanta to protect Rafael, his parents and a priest from Rafael’s first transformation to a werewolf. Then Rafael and his friend Landon Kirby, a boy Hope met a few years earlier in Mystic Falls and shared a dance, are brought to Salvatore School for the Young and Gifted, a safe place for the supernatural kids to study and learn to control their powers. Alaric’s daughters Josie and Lizzie are welcoming Rafael to his new home, and give him a tour, while Landon answers some questions about Rafael’s life. When the time comes for a vampire student M.G. to make him forget what he has learned the compel doesn’t work. Hope believes that he may have taken a herb called vervain, so they wait 24 hours to compel him again. During this time he and Hope are coming closer but when he leaves from the school, Alaric finds out that a powerful 12th-century knife is missing, that Landon has not been compelled again and that he is a supernatural being whose actions caused everyone's death in the bus he was traveling with. Now Hope has to hunt him down.
